Maya (name changed) came from India to Nepal with her family. She is 5 years old. Her father used to repair shoes but became ill and could no longer work. Her mother started working in construction and housecleaning. They could not afford to send Maya to school.
We talked to the family about our educational support program and they were happy to send her to NHK School. In the beginning Maya was withdrawn and would get angry easily. She had some chest infections and we needed to take her to hospital for treatment.
She started changing slowly and enjoying her classes. Her health improved as well. She is interested in studying. She has many friends in NHK now. She cares about her belongings and expresses herself easily. She will learn in NHK for two more years and then she will be ready for regular school program for further study.
